Do you think the Twelve Steps are just for alcoholics and addicts? Have you ever wondered how these simple steps hold the key to transforming lives? The truth is that the Twelve Steps, the basis of many recovery programs, are deeply rooted in scripture and can lead us to the fuller, more joy-filled lives God has in store for us, whether we have a substance abuse problem or not.
Jeff Dafler will lead a 10-week bible study series beginning Wednesday, September 14 focused on how the Twelve Steps can be a powerful tool for anyone looking to draw on God’s strength and peace to manage the ups and downs of life. We will use Richard Rohr’s book, Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps (available on Amazon), as our guide. As the book jacket says, “We are all addicted in some way. When we learn to identify our addiction, embrace our brokenness, and surrender to God, we can bring healing to ourselves and to our world. In Breathing Under Water, Richard Rohr shows how the gospel principles in the Twelve Steps can free anyone from any addiction – from an obvious dependence on alcohol or drugs to the more common but less visible addiction that we all have to sin.”
This is a great opportunity for us all to share our experience, strength and hope as we explore together how God can use the Twelve Steps to lead us to deeper peace and joy no matter what life throws at us!
